Pliny the Elder already hymned its characteristics and Giuseppe Buonfiglio-Costanzo, in his work "Messina città nobilissima", described the early 17 th century Fair: "A lot of very adorned and beautiful shops, full of rich goods and desirable things, carried by dealers from the near and populated Banchi's road". "Fondo dei Barbera" Company is lead by Claudio Barbera and his daughters, who continue the family tradition started in 1961 by Claudio's father, Pietro, who bought an old farmhouse. Today the land area is 15000 square metres (ha 1,50,00) planted with vineyards and olive grove. The vines of 7500 square metres ( 75 ares ) are raised in rammed cord and the grapes are a typical P.O.D. "Faro" (Nerello Mascalese, Cappuccio, Nocera and a small part of Nero D'Avola). The stable generation DOC/PDO "Faro" will produce seven thousand bottles. The winemaking is monitored by Salvatore Martinico, an Oenologist who shares with Claudio his love of this small oenological Sicilian reality. In 2008 they decided to bottle the production and the only label, thanks to 1264 produced bottles, was rewarded in the Asti National competition "Douja D'Or", 2010 edition. In the company there are tasting services and guided tours.
